J & R had a fun filled California Memorial Stadium wedding reception at UC Berkeley. Not only is UC Berkeley the bride’s alma mater, her parents and many family members graduated from Cal. The California Memorial Stadium is a spectacular wedding venue with a wonderful history and traditions. J&R wanted their guests to have a wonderful experience since their family and friends mean so much to them.
As a Berkeley wedding photographer, I have photographed at many UC Berkeley weddings at venues such as UC Berkeley Botanical Garden and the Faculty Club. This was my first time photographing a wedding at the California Memorial Stadium and it was absolutely thrilling! J&R were excited to take photos on the stadium football field, and the University of California at Berkeley Marching Band made an appearance during the wedding reception.
First Look
We started out with a First Look on the beautiful glass balcony at the stadium. It was a nice opportunity for J&R to see each other for the first time with the iconic Campanile in the background.

We were able to take J&R into the California Memorial Stadium for wedding photos in the stands and on the football field, even the fifty yard line!
COCKTAIL HOUR
UC Berkeley Straw Hat Band
The UC Berkeley Straw Hat band is a sub group of the main UC Berkeley Marching Band. Their appearance at the wedding reception of J&R was a complete surprise for the guests, and a definite treat! The bride and many of her family members, as well as wedding guests are alumni of Cal. All of the guests thoroughly enjoyed the performance of the UC Berkeley Straw Hat band. They played a wide range of songs as well as a few UC Berkeley football cheer songs. The band really pumped up the guests!
Dancing & REception
J&R were blessed with wonderful weather on their wedding day, and a beautiful sunset during their cocktail hour.
Details
J&R had a white and green color palette for their wedding. The florals featured green and white, and their invitations were a clean and minimalistic design in black and white.
Beautiful hand drawn illustration of the California Memorial Stadium adorned the wedding invitation.
A fashion illustrator was available to create hand drawn illustrations of all of the wedding guests. Another very thoughtful surprise that the guests really loved. Everyone was impressed with the quality of the illustrations.
About California Memorial Stadium WEDDINGS
Since it opened in the fall of 1923, the California Memorial Stadium has produced many memories for generations of Golden Bears. Built as a memorial to fallen heroes of World War I from California, the stadium is a stunning example of Beaux Arts architecture and historical signficigance. The stadium is located on the UC Berkeley campus at the foot of the Berkeley Hills.

The Stadium Club level is at the top of the stadium. It offers a stunning panoramic view of the San Francisco Bay from the glass balcony of the Stadium Club where wedding receptions are held. The stadium level features a sleek mezzanine, glass ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows, four bars, and plenty of space for a large gathering of up to 250 wedding guests.
The Stadium offers a wonderful on-site event coordinator and catering by Levy Catering.
